It is the city of nightlife, fashionable resorts, ocean-going yachts and entertainment complexes, having a reputation of being the liveliest and most unsafe US city. The most popular area here is Miami Beach itself – a huge Atlantic resort, a strip of beaches stretching for 45 km along the coast.
Among its attractions Villa Vizcaya should be noted, built in 1916, Renaissance and neoclassicism inspired, 70 rooms of which are filled with art works from all over the world; the colorful villa Casa Casuarina (1930); Bohemian Art Deco district – unique architectural complex performed in the Art Nouveau style, above which the Freedom Tower overlooks. Artists can be found in the Design District.
Tourists are attracted by the protected sand dunes along Collins Avenue with dense vegetation and a great number of birds, the Tropic Paradise complex is a large botanical and zoological garden with an exhibition of more than 1,100 exotic birds and 1,200 tropical plants, as well as the world-famous Seaquarium (Oceanarium), which has almost 40 hectares of tropical gardens and parks inhabited by exotic birds, including parrots and flamingos. You can have a pleasant walk in the tropical garden Fairchild too.
In addition to this, the area of Little Havana is interesting, populated by immigrants from Cuba; especially beautiful in the evening is Miami Business Center, the old mansions of Coral Gables with the only “historic” pool in the United States – Venetian Pool (1922).

Almost no beaches in Miami Beach have changing stalls. Showers, toilets, bars and restaurants are found all over the coast. Sun lounger and umbrella rent on the coast are quite expensive. Don’t rent a sun lounger in the first available rental, it is better to walk along the beach and compare prices.
South Pointe Park beach stretches between 1st and 5th streets. The southernmost beach of Miami Beach is popular among surfers and water sports enthusiasts. The eponymous park was opened in 2009 after a large-scale reconstruction near the beach.
South Beach is one of the most popular in Miami, located between 5th and 21st streets. People come here not only for sunbathing, the beach is the attraction center for local fashionistas, photographers, tourists and those who like running along the Atlantic coast in the mornings. The most crowded part of the coast – Lummus Park – is located between 5th and 15th streets. Bars, restaurants, showers and beach equipment rental are concentrated here; there are also volleyball and football grounds. South Beach is not a nudist beach, but topless swimming is allowed. Across the road from the beach you can find the best night clubs in Miami.
The beaches, stretching from 21st to 79th streets, are located mainly at the hotel complexes and apartment buildings. Here the infrastructure is not as well developed as on other parts of the coast. Rental locations for umbrellas and sun loungers are rare, so are the bars and restaurants. Parking lots can be found at most beach entries; parking meters are located at the intersection of Collins Avenue with 21st, 35th, 46th, 53rd, 64th and 72nd streets.
At the intersection of Collins Avenue with 79th, 81st and 83rd streets there are beaches formally located on the territory of the city park North Shore Open Space Park. Entrance to these beaches costs about $ 1. This is an ideal option for those who are looking for a relaxing holiday near the city; on the beaches there are gazebos for picnics.
Situated in the north of Miami Beach, Bal Harbor beach is located on the territory of the city park having the same name. Most resort hotels, stretching along the coast, have their conditionally closed beaches. On the territory of Bal Harbor there are the largest shopping complexes in Miami, with a huge number of stores.
Haulover Beach, located between the beaches of Sunny Isles and Bal Harbor, is considered nudist. However, on the coast there are special areas where it is allowed to sunbathe in swimwear. Haulover is considered one of the best places to surf in Miami. In case you plan to take lessons, it is better to come early, when the beach is not so crowded. Be careful: showers located at the Haulover are often used by homeless people.
Sunny Isles beach, stretching 2.5 miles, lies in the north of Bal Harbor. Water sports are available here; there is a children’s playground, volleyball and tennis pitch. Tourists can rent a boat or a motorboat for boat trips, as well as go fishing.
In the north of Miami, behind the Sunny Isles beach, there is Hollywood Beach, which stretches for two miles. The beach with coarse grained sand is considered one of the most romantic in Florida. Volleyball grounds, concert venues, bars and restaurants are concentrated here. You can also rent umbrellas and sun loungers.
Virginia Key beaches
The beaches of Virginia Key Island have all conditions for a comfortable family holiday. The picturesque beaches are located on the southern and northern extremities of the island, along the Rickenbacker Causeway, which connects Virginia Key to the mainland.
The southern part of the coast is a popular holiday destination among the locals. Here you can rent sun beds and umbrellas; there are small bars and showers. For children, a playground is equipped, and on weekends you can find amusements parks here. Free parking is provided. The entrance to the beach is open from 7:30 am until 1 am.
On the north coast, you can find nooks and enjoy a secluded vacation. Entrance to the beach will cost $ 2; parking fee is extra – $ 5 per car. Access to the coast is open from 9 am to 5 pm.
Key Biscayne beaches
Bill Baggs State Park beach is located on the south coast of Key Biscayne, which is connected by a dam with Miami. The length of the beach is one mile. The place is ideal for those who are looking for a relaxing holiday away from the city noise: the beach is situated within the park. Fishing is allowed in the area adjacent to the dam. Not far from the beach there is the Cape Florida lighthouse, where local guides organize excursions (in the mornings from Thursday to Monday). Parking fee is $ 5 per car. The beach is open daily from 8 am to sunset.
On the snow-white beach Crandon Park, located on the east of the island, you can find one of the best parties in Miami. The beach stretches for three kilometers; it is always noisy, crowded here and music is playing everywhere – reggae, soul, salsa and disco. The entrance is open from 8 am to sunset. Showers are equipped for tourists and citizens, there are umbrellas and sun loungers for rent, restaurants and bars, as well as volleyball and football grounds. There is a diving school. You can also find a golf club not far from the beach. Parking fee is $ 5 per car.
Resort complexes and hotels are located mainly along Miami Beach. The most luxurious hotels can be found at Ocean Drive. Accommodation in rooms with views over the Atlantic Ocean is traditionally more expensive. Most hotels have swimming pools. Umbrellas, sun loungers and towels for guests are provided free of charge both on the beach adjacent to the hotel and at the pool.
